Simon’s background is in the marine environment, where he enjoyed a successful 26 year career with the Royal Navy prior to joining MatthewsDaniel in 2012.

During his seagoing career Simon served on a variety of warships, ranging from offshore patrol vessels to aircraft carriers.  He commanded the minehunter HMS WALNEY, the guided missile destroyer HMS NOTTINGHAM and was also the Chief of Staff to the Commander UK Carrier Strike Group.  Ashore he undertook a number of headquarters roles, including two tours of duty in the Ministry of Defence, and was an STCW Command Examiner for future warship commanding officers.  He holds the military equivalent of a Master Mariners qualification and is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.

In 2012 Simon commenced his loss adjusting and marine surveying career with MatthewsDaniel in London, where he developed his knowledge of, and skills in, the London insurance market and the policy forms associated with energy risks. Whilst in London, Simon worked on a number of major energy losses, and successfully handled many multi-million dollar claims on a worldwide basis, including some major jack-up drilling rig losses. He also undertook a wide variety of marine and energy survey assignments, as well as providing marine consultancy and loss prevention services to major shipowners and operators.

In January 2016, Simon moved from the MatthewsDaniel Head Office in London to become Regional Managing Director of MatthewsDaniel in Asia-Pacific. During his 5 years in Asia he was responsible for the 5 MatthewsDaniel offices in the region and oversaw all Risk Assessment and Loss Adjusitng operations.  He returned to the London office in mid-2020 as a Director and Group Chief of Staff.  He remains an active Loss Adjuster and surveyor.
